Title 1 Program

Title I is a federal grant program available to our nationís schools. The goal of Title I is to provide extra assistance and instruction for students not yet achieving town and/or state goal standards as measured by the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT). Millions of students throughout our nationís elementary and secondary schools participate in Title I each year.

Students are selected to participate if standardized test (ie. CMT) scores and district assured assessments tests scores do not meet the state and/or town goal or if the classroom teacher acesses the studentís class work needs additional support.

At Franklin School, Title I assistance is administered in one and/or two ways. One way is in the computer lab in conjunction with Title I classroom instructional assistant. The assistant works individually and in small groups with students in consultation with the classroom teachers.

The second way is in forty-five  minute tutoring sessions with the Title I tutors. The tutors enter the actual classroom and personally assist and instruct students. Tutoring services are in cooperation with our reading consultants and the classroom teacher. The goal of this program is to improve the student's skills and achievement in reading, language arts and/or math throughout the year.
